About The Bee
In partnership with The Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, we are proud to bring the National Civics Bee® to Kent, WA. This competition invites middle schoolers in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades from public, private, charter, and home schools to participate in a first-round civics essay competition. A distinguished panel of judges will review the essays, and the top 20 students will be selected to advance to a local in-person event. The local event will feature two rounds of civics questions followed by a Q&A round, providing a platform for students to showcase their civics knowledge.
Local winners will receive a minimum of $500 cash for first place and an invitation to compete in the National Civics Bee® Washington State Finals, where they will have the opportunity to win additional cash prizes. The first-place winner of the State Finals will earn a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the national championship in the Fall of 2025, with prizes totaling more than $50,000.
Why Civics
The Kent Chamber is participating in the National Civics Bee® because we believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy, and a strong workforce, and that our continued prosperity depends on the strength of all three. Through the Bee, we are promoting greater civic knowledge in Washington and celebrating our civic pride.
